Coursera is a Vessel.

Informal, adult learners have different agendas than young students. Financial demands, scheduling and location limitations have prevented many seekers from attending college. Some are still craving to learn.Others want to advance at their workplace and provide more for their families.Coursera is the ticket .Sign up and learn at your own pace. You will receive a confirmation notice, most likely, that resembles the copy below.Notice how the orientation is defined by the student. No pressure,no set class time or location, free of cost.If you are seeking certification a program ,a guideline and honor code agreement is all that is required. Stanford,John Hopkins ,Caltech, and hundreds of other schools are partnered with Coursera and you will never be charged ,never be marked absent and never fail. Just learn more.
Welcome, Christopher!

There are just a couple of things to do before we start the course.
1. Please tell us your goals

Your response will help us to better serve students like you. This will not affect your course experience.
Poll

I am strongly committed to ...
... mastering the course material by working through the exercises and earning a certificate.
... learning the course material mainly by watching most of the lectures.
None of the above. I'm just checking out the course for now.
2. Sign the Coursera Honor Code

All students participating in the class must agree to abide by the following code of conduct:
I will register for only one account.
My answers to homework, quizzes and exams will be my own work (except for assignments that explicitly permit collaboration).
I will not make solutions to homework, quizzes or exams available to anyone else. This includes both solutions written by me, as well as any official solutions provided by the course staff.
I will not engage in any other activities that will dishonestly improve my results or dishonestly improve/hurt the results of others.
commitment to each small goal. This is a brief survey sent by coursera  staff following enrollment. You will notice the goal orientation is defined by the student. No pressure,no set class time or location, free of cost.If you are seeking certification a program ,a guideline and honor code agreement is all that is required.
Welcome, Christopher!

Metadata course/North Carolina

But I wanted to create this course to be accessible even to students with no Information Science background. Which is why unit 1 was so long: I tried to fill in some of that background. And hopefully pique your interest in Information Science! But now that that background is background, we'll start building on it. In unit 2, we will look at our first ex...
