Dear Christopher Eck,

Thank you for signing up for Maps and the Geo spatial Revolution. You are among the first to take a course like this focused on Maps and Geography. I'm thrilled to have you aboard and we look forward to teaching you more about why spatial is special, and how to make your own great maps.

I'll be in touch again when the class begins. I'm really excited to make maps together!

Cheers,

Christopher Eck,
The latest information from Fundamentals of Digital Image and Video Processing by Northwestern University on Coursera.
Dear Christopher Eck, My name is Aggelos K. Katsaggelos and I would like to welcome you to the Fundamentals of Digital Image and Video Processing. Over the 12 weeks of this course, starting on March 31st 2014, you will learn the basic principles and tools used to process images and videos, and how to apply them in solving practical problems of commercial and scientific interests. More specifically, we will provide a mathematical framework to describe and analyze images and videos as two- and three-dimensional signals in the spatial, spatio-temporal, and frequency domains. In this class, not only will you learn the theory behind fundamental processing tasks including image/video enhancement, recovery, and compression - but you will also learn how to perform these key processing tasks in practice using state-of-the-art techniques and tools. You can find a more detailed syllabus along with other information about the course logistics by visiting the course webpage.
On the course webpage you can also find a short survey designed to help us better understand who you are, what your background is, and what your motivations are for taking this course. Please take 5 minutes to complete this survey. Your responses will be kept anonymous and help us improve the course experience for you. Feel free to forward this email to friends and colleagues of yours who might be interested in taking this class. I hope to see you all in class.
Best,
Prof. Aggelos K. Katsaggelos

Unit 1 is the longest unit -- all of the remaining units are shorter (though some units are longer than others). Many MOOCs (including this one) are created for a broad general audience: maybe you have some background in Information Science, and if so, great! But I wanted to create this course to be accessible even to students with no Information Science background. Which is why unit 1 was so long: I tried to fill in some of that background. And hopefully pique your interest in Information Science! But now that that background is background, we'll start building on it. In unit 2, we will look at our first ex...
